Throughout the calendar year the parish is involved in numerous outreach projects serving local, national and international needs.
Locally, parishioners volunteer at a soup kitchen once a month & make monetary donations throughout the year; during the Christmas Season gifts are given to a family selected by Social Services and members ring the bell for Salvation Army; and Valentine’s Day cards are prepared for the veterans at the Veterans’ Center.
Within the diocese, support is provided to a Boys’ Home by collecting Labels for Education from food products with which the Home purchases needed school supplies and an annual Penny Drive is held.
Nationally and internationally, the parish participates in the United Thank Offering (UTO), and responds to requests from the Episcopal Relief & Development (ERD).
In 2012, the parish began a partnership with KIVA providing Microfund loans to numerous individuals throughout the world. This project is the parish’s Millennium Development Goals (MDG) project. KIVA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that allows people, organizations and corporations to lend money via the Internet to people in developing countries through KIVA’s 142 partner microfinance institutions. KIVA means “unity” in Swahili. The organization was founded in 2005 with its headquarters in San Francisco. KIVA serves the entire world with a focus in economic development and its mission is “to connect people through lending to alleviate poverty.”
Trinity began with funding to nine individuals – five males and four females. These individuals are using the loans for housing, purchasing equipment for businesses, animal husbandry venues and children’s higher education. These recipients live in Tajikistan, Albania, Mongolia, Vietnam, Ecuador, Lebanon, Iraq and two in Bolivia. As they repay their loans, the money is deposited back into Trinity’s KIVA account for re-distribution to other worthy entrepreneurs. Within the next quarter, the parish will allocate the repayment monies to other worthy recipients.
Sarah and Bill Alexander’s granddaughter, Molly Kate recently helped to stock Trinity’s ‘Blessing box’ full of food items to help those in need. Good girl, Molly Kate! And thank you, Sarah and Bill for setting such a great example for her!!! What a wonderful life-lesson!!
